Moraira

Why buy a property in Moraira?
The town of Moraira was founded by the Moors and although they were defeated and expelled during the 13thCentury, their influence can still be seen in the architecture of the town. Moraira was up until 40 years ago, just a tiny cluster of fishermen’s cottages sitting near to the sea, then holidaymakers discovered this sleepy little fishing village.

It has grown into a wonderful tourist destination whilst still retaining its culture and unspoilt beauty. Lying in a sheltered bay and backed by beautiful mountains and countryside, Moraira has not been marred by the huge apartment blocks. A large proportion of Morairs properties are picturesque whitewashed villas set amongst orange groves and pine forests.

Moraira is located in the Marina Alta area of the Alicante province, about 80km north of Alicante. Moraira is geographically situated in a perfect location with hot summers, mild winters and over 300 days of sunshine each year. The surrounding mountains help to shelter Moraria from cold northerly winds during the winter keeping temperatures mild. It is a perfect base to easily visit other towns of interest in the area including Guadalest, Benidorm, Javea and Denia.

Morairas main beach is situated right next to the town centre with convenient pedestrian walkways making it very easy to access the town or the marina. Just round the corner is the beach area called El Portet. It’s almost like a Caribbean bay, the water is turquoise, the hills are alive with pine trees and there is a small winding road leading down to the beach. The waters are very calm making it safe for children.

The fishermen still go to sea in the early hours of the morning to catch the produce, which is sold later that day by auction at the traditional fish market. This market has grown over the years, and is now one of the most important fish markets in the Costa Blanca region. The main street is very colourful with a wide variety of shops including the usual tourist fayre of designer clothing, art galleries, Spanish leather goods and fresh produce from the local bakers and butchers. Morairas marina is very modern and well worth a visit, you will find some amazing restaurants in this area.

If you are looking for something more energetic than relaxing on the beach or by the pool then there is a large array of sports available. These include jet ski hire, water skiing, deep sea fishing, diving tuition and equipment hire, tennis courts, mini golf and mountain bike hire. The golfers amongst you can enjoy a round or two at the nearby Ifach Golf Club, whilst taking in breathtaking views of the surrounding coastline, including the magnificent Peñon de Ifach at nearby Calpe. For the children there are specially designed park areas in and around the town or opposite the town centre you will find an excellent permanent fairground.
