4 Beautiful attractions on the Costa Blanca
4 Beautiful attractions on the Costa Blanca
Intro
The saying goes "beauty is in the eye of the beholder” and having lived in Spain for over 3 years now, I can’t agree more. Since moving to into a villa in Javea for work, I have been truly blown away at the lifestyle here and how many charming and delightful places there are to visit, each one as aesthetically pleasing as the next. Not a day goes by where I don’t find myself gazing into the sunset and reminding myself how lucky I am to be living here. I’ve been wanting to share some of the attractions that I’m lucky enough to have on my doorstep, and now as I drink my coffee on the balcony, have the perfect time.
The Algar Waterfalls
The Algar River’s journey flows almost exactly in between the town of Callosa d’en Sarria and Altea. An excursion to The Algar Waterfalls is the perfect way to cool down with temperatures soaring to highs of 32 degrees on the Costa Blanca during the summer months (another perk to my relocation). A collection of natural waterfalls that are quite literally breathtaking, especially after a speculative plunge into the refreshingly cold water. I did wonder to myself that if I was lucky enough to live closer, would I visit the waterfalls every day? A dip in an organic pool is more healthy for the skin than a bath, right?
Calpe Peñon
Off to the elegant seaside town of Calpe now and an activity a bit more physically challenging but most definitely rewarding. Located not too far from my hometown of Javea you will find your skyline dominated by the mighty rock of Peñon de Ifach. A 332-meter Natural Park linked naturally to the shoreline since the dawn of time. The 3-hour hike to the summit is not for the faint-hearted or for those who aren’t the best with heights but the simply awe-inspiring views from the top, looking down over the Calpe Marina has to go down as one of the most picturesque picnics I’ve ever had. Take plenty of snacks, an abundance of fluids and enjoy the stroll at your own pace.
City of Valencia
A recent outing to the third biggest City in Spain will long last in my memory. Only an hours drive from Javea and with a constant flow of fast trains linking it with fellow city Madrid in under two hours, Valencia is a place I could really see myself setting up home. You’re Completely spoilt with history and architecture, you find yourself aimlessly meandering around looking up at the sights only to be blinded by the scorching sun. A quick pit stop for some of the most traditional and authentic Spanish cuisine I’ve tasted, a chance to soak it all in, like the bread in my Paella bowl. Throw in a delightful sandy beach for good measure.
The quaint Town of Denia
If I ever get to live my dream of owning a traditional Spanish townhouse, packed full of character then Denia will be the place for me. An outstandingly vibrant place that ticks every box whether it be the architecture, mixing from modern restaurants and bars to the ancient and historical Denia Castle or the endless golden beaches stretching for as far as you can see. Denia is also a party town, littered with fiestas all year round. Start your day with some freshly caught seafood in one of its lively fishing port markets and finish it off by experiencing one of the colourful and musical fiestas, sounds like a plan!
Conclusion
The Costa Blanca really is a wonderful piece of paradise, with a little something for everyone. It even has one of the best climates in Europe. Since living here, I don’t need to worry about owning an umbrella, I wake up almost every morning to the sun beating down through the blinds, great for the mind, body and soul. Something we could all get used to, I’d say!
